SDF’s BOSS GUARDIANSHIP PROGRAM.

SDF's French Bulldog guardian home is a partnership where we places a "pick-of-the-litter" puppy with a local family at a reduced cost. 

The dog/puppy lives with the family full-time as a pet, while the breeder retains breeding rights for a set number of litters. (Each puppy/dog is different but we only ever do two litters max with females in guardian homes.) 

*ALBERTA CANADA (Red Deer/Calgary area preferred or you must be willing to drive to Cedarwood vet in Red Deer when ever the breeder needs.

ALL GUARDIAN HOMES ARE NOW REDUCED TO $1,500.00 with the exception of short term males. They are still $2,500.00 but are closed and frozen after all testing is completed. We might have up to three breeding’s before being frozen to help get him proven but that is the most we will allow ON A SHORT TERM MALE ONLY. 

How the Arrangement Works

• Ownership: The dog is technically owned by the breeder during the contract period. Once the dog completes its breeding career (typically 1 to 2 for females, and/or a specified timeframe for males) The breeder pays for all breeding related costs and full ownership is permanently transferred to the guardian family once their contract is fulfilled and the dog has been spayed or neutered. **We don’t always feel a dog needs to be neutered once their contract is up. So we are open to discuss this further if and when needed. Females must be spayed if not done by us on her last litter. No exceptios unless for medical reasons. 

• Living Situation: In every practical sense, this is your dog. They live in your home, sleep on your bed, and you are responsible for their daily routine and making sure to let the. Breeder know if the dog will be unavailable at any time. Breeder does have the right to take said dog if needed and return him/her to the guardian when they are ready at no cost to either party. 

Responsibilities of the Guardian Family

Guardian families are essentially treated as co-parents, sharing the responsibility of the dog with the breeder. 

• Day-to-Day Costs: You cover routine pet ownership expenses, including food, treats, vaccinations, flea/tick/heartworm prevention, and any standard veterinary care.

• Socialization: You are responsible for basic training, exercise, and ensuring the dog is well-socialized in a loving environment. 

• You are responsible to send good quality pictures and update the breeder throughout the year(s) 

Responsibilities of the Breeder

• Breeding & Health Costs: The breeder pays for all breeding-related expenses, including genetic/DNA testing, OFA testing, progesterone testing, and pregnancy care.

• Whelping (Giving Birth): When it is time to breed, the female dog will stay with the breeder for the mating process and return to you during gestation. She will then return to the breeder about a week before her due date and stay until the puppies are weaned (usually around 6 to 8 weeks).

• Stud Duties: For male Frenchies, the breeder may require the dog for a few days at a time for mating or artificial insemination. But are open to the guardian being there and taking him home after every collection. *ALL collections are done by someone on our reproductive team at Cedarwood vet. We never do them ourselves and for their safety, we never have them done natural breeding’s.
